There are a lot of catfish that only grow to 8 or 9 inches - go to Planet Catfish (http://www.planetcatfish.com/) and search out synodontis (for starters).

Heck, there are corydoras catfish that only grow 3-4 inches, you could have a colony of 'em in a 100 gallon!

Good luck!

Most any catfish can be put in a tank that large but keep in mind that most larger catfish will eat other fish so if you put tetras or other small schooling fish in a tank with larger catfish (anything over about 5 or 6 inches), you will need lots of cover for the small fish to hide in and even with that, some of them will still get eaten.

There are plenty of catfish that can go in your 100 gallon tank. Here are some:
- Dwarf Sucker Mouth Catfish - 1.5 - 1.75"
- Synodontis Eupterus Catfish - 5.5 - 6"
- Upside Down Catfish - 3 - 4"
- Punctatus Cory Catfish - 2.25 - 2.5"
- Albino Channel Catfish - 24 - 27"
- Lima Shovel Nose Catfish - 8 - 12"
- Emerald Cory Catfish - 3 - 4"
- Juhli Cory Catfish - 2"
- Aneus Cory Catfish - 2.5 - 3"
- Albino Cory Catfish - 2.5 - 3"
- Spotted Rafael Catfish - 6"
- Ghost Catfish - 6"
- Pangasius Catfish - 36 - 39"
- Pictus Catfish - 4 - 6"
That's all I can think of and I hope my advice helps you pick your new catfish :-)

rescue a neglected common plec. the ones that are bought at 3" long by newbies to the fish world, unbeknowned to them they get to 12".

for non-suckermouth catfish have look on planetcatfish. look for fish that get to around 12", any longer would depend on the dimensions on your 100 gallon, catfish don't tend to be too "bendy" so need room to turn around.

Pictus catfish are really fun to watch but do best in groups of at least three.

Is the cat going to be alone?

I introduced a channel cat into my tropical tank of 30 gallons and the cat started eating the other fish, so beware. I had to return the channel cat to the petstore it was growing really fast and i couldn't afford to lose any more fish.

it all depends on how big you want the catfish to be. A shovel nose catfish would be great or maybe an angelicus catfish.there are so many different catfish out their that any one would do great in a tank that big.
