how to get a credit card or debit card when you only have a building society account?

i have applied twice but have been turned down

You won't get a debit card without a current acocunt. You can get a credit card if you just have a building society account but you have to be a good credit risk. If you've been turned down for a credit card, ask the issuer why. If it's your credit score, ask them how you can improve it. It may simply be that you have no credit history and therefore no proven credit record to deteremine if you are a good or bad risk.

You have been turned down for a good reason. You must prove you are responsible first. That takes time. Ask at your bank or credit union why you have been turned down. They will share with you the reasons. You can get into a lot of trouble with a credit or debit card. Before you know it, you have run up a debt that you can't pay. Talk with them.

Does your building society have a current account facility? Open one up and you can transfer money between them.. Prodived you have enough funds and money coming in they will give you a credit card. You won't get one if you only have savings and no regular income. You have to be able to show you can afford to make the repayments to the card, so they will want to see the money going into your current account.

try just opening a basic current account with a bank and at the same time they will try to sell you a credit card!!!! can't imagine why they would turn you down to have a credit card as long as you r over 18!!!!

you would need to open a current account with a bank, then you may be able to get a credit card, but often this takes 3 months. If your building society wont offer one you wil ahve to go to a bank
