any mechanics out there know if you can cut a new thread on a rocker cover bolt on an impreza

Try retapping the threads. Also called chasing the threads. If that doesn't work then you can get a helo-coil kit and drill and tap the hole, then put in the helo-coil insert and it will repair the threads.

ok ham fisted, how did yu do that? i presume youve got the bolt out. it'll be either 6 or 8mm...

you can buy a thread chaser (tap) and a new bolt, or you can wrap the old bolt with PTFE (gas fitters/plumbers tape) and refit it. the bolt is steel, and the casting is aluminium...

the proper way to to get the hole helicoiled... but, its not a perfect science, get it wrong and youll do more damage... and it will be very expensive, youre drilling into the cylinder head... be careful

as a mechanic of many years yes first you need to make sure that the valve cover bolt is out after that find a bottom tap and tap the hole if the hole is really screwed up youll need to install a helicoil to repair the hole

sure you can rethread a bolt hole.get a tap and die set and cut new threads.you might have to use a bigger bolt,but yes you can rethread a bolt hole.
