Alright I know that this might sound crazy but I'm going to say it anyways. My husband is in the U.S. Army, currently deployed to Afghanistan. Well, he's been gone for a year and he's deployment got extended. He hasn't called me in 6 days which is making me worried. Last night I was on the couch surfing the web and I smelled oil and grease but there's none of that in this house. My husband is a mechanic and I was just wondering if he was trying to reach out to me or something. The smell was right next to me just for a couple of minutes. It was no where else in the house and it's gone now. Is it he's way to reach out for me?

sometimes memories can trigger smells that relate to. I am sure that since he is so heavy in your thoughts, that you triggered the one smell that reminded you of him. I hope you hear from him soon, and also that he returns home, so that you can smell that smell for real.

I'm probably old enough to be your Dad, and I'm not an expert in anything psychological. But here's what I think.

It's likely that you're evoking a memory of a smell that reminds you of him. Maybe a picture of him or a bit of clothing, perhaps a shirt he wore while changing the oil, helped remind you of these smells. I think it's cool that instead of the smell of oil evoking his memory, for you the memory of a smell of oil came seemingly out of nowhere. Scientists haven't found any evidence that humans connect by "reaching out" as you say, but many others believe the spiritual world connects us in ways we don't understand. I'm skeptical, but fairly open-minded.

I suggest you let him know. Ask him to send you some axle grease from his Humvee! He'll think that's silly, but will remember the gesture forever.

Below is an article on memory and smell. You may want to post your thoughts on the serendip web site and see how a few experts respond. Bryn Mawr College professors may be a little snooty but their hearts are probably in the right spot.

I'm sorry, I am hopeing he has found away to communicate with you throught thought. Normally when this happens one has already crossed over. I really pray this is not the case. Try having someone stay with you for a few days, just in case the worse were to happen. He MAY HAVE ALSO HAD an injury which let him communicate for a short time. either way you should be hearing something soon.

You won't know until you ask him. Mark what time it was down and keep it. When he calls ask him to try and remember where he was right then. It is possible to have more memories than just sight and sound though.

God Bless you! and your family....

That sound like either you were reaching out to him or he was reaching out to you.... I hopr it was your mind power and not his spirit power.... God bless you ... i am crying for you right now.
