The burden is that a huge chunk of the federal budget will have to be used just to pay down the interest to the national debt. In my opinion, it is immoral to spend money you don't have and expect your children to pay for it.
Bush did not really cut taxes. He simply shifted them to the next generation. All that debt will eventually have to be paid, and paid with interest.

By having to spend over $400 billion of the tax revenues for interest on this debt every year. It seems most americans are OK with spending more than they make and don't see how large of a problem it really is.

We have become a nation of "I'll pay for it tomorrow" or the ever popular "What the heck it doesn't concern me, I'll be dead by the time it gets bad"
We seem to say that about a host of things.
So we leave our children to cover a debt we never should have allowed to accumulate. At no previous time has America ever cut taxes during a time of conflict or war.

No more than in 2000 when we where left with the 4.3 Trillion left over from the last President. Why do you commies worry about the USA. I think you'd be happy to see us go down, the quicker the better. Don't the end justify the means ?

National debt is not a big issue. Think of it like a mortgage. We only need to balance the budget. So far the republicans have been terrible at that . It is the big reason many congressmen did not return.

Good question. At some point this issue will have to be addressed although the politicians are very good at dodging it. I think it will require a total restructering of our tax system and probably a move toward a more socialistic form of government, although I personally hate to see that. Freedom only works if everyone respects it and our government no longer cares about anything but personal power!!

If America continues its slippery slide into socialism this debt will kill America. The only ways to stop it is to increase the economy, for the dumb that means capitalism not socialism, and we must stop career politicians in congress from selling our country to the big dollar donors. This can be accomplished by having term limits in congress. This can be accomplished by having one term only, pick a fair number of years, but no more reelections bought by rich donors who expect a payback. Public finding, all get the same dollars for their initial and only campaign, no private money.
If you don't like those ideas how about no consecutive terms, you have to take one or two off before you can run again.
Congress is killing America. Socialism is a disease.

Of coarse I'm concerned about the future of my children and grandchildren. The Republicans should be punished and made to pay an extra tax because they supported the looting of America.

Let's face it Tony....America is bankrupt both fiscally and morally.
They might want to warm up to China a bit...when the time for a "Bail-out" comes to light.
