aww I once did that at school and won 1st prize, many many years ago.
My mum and I cut out petal shapes from different pieces of coloured felt, glued them on to the egg as colourful flowers and in the centre of each flower put a tiny pearl, if you have no beads, just buy a cheap bracelet or necklace. Believe me it looks really beautiful

Last year mine did this: Over the sink, place an egg that has been dipped in vinegar into a colander. Put small drops of food coloring onto the egg -- two or three different colors or just one color. Then take hold of the colander and move it in a circular motion . The egg will travel around the inside of the colander, and the coloring will cover it -- looks kind of tie-dyed when you are done. Leave it soak in for a couple minutes, then rinse the egg under cold water, and set aside to dry. Be careful not to use the wrong colors together, or too many colors at once, or the egg will just look brownish and not pretty. We plan on doing this again this year -- it is WAY more fun than buying an egg coloring kit, and super, super easy.

wax resist-
draw on the surface with wax crayons (circles, dots, zig-zags etc) then soak in food colouring

string resist-
wrap string around egg in stripes, then soak in food colouring.

Crackled egg-
slightly crack the shell of the boiled egg, but don't remove it. soak the egg in food colouring- th colour will seep throeghn the cracks and create a pattern on the surface of the egg white.

Different colors-
soak eggs in food colouring. you can make a variety of single coloured eggs- some pink, some blue etc
or you can make them change colour gradually- soaking evenly for a short time followed by dipping one end of the egg into the colouring for a limited period of time - this will create stripes
or you could dye one half blue/ one half pink- where the colours overlap would be purple.

decorate with string ribbons bows etc

present in a basket lined with shredded yellow paper- like a nest

3d animals-
drawing faces on with felt pens or paints. you can do seasonal creatures such as the easter bunny or or baby chick features and stick cardboard ears or beaks on to complete the effect.

natural dyes-
you can also use natural dyes such as onion skins or beetroot juice instead of food colouring to crate a more subtle effect.

tissue paper and basic school glue paint it on and cover the egg sometimes the dye comes out of the paper and colours the shell, use felt pens for finer details and add feathers and sequins or good old fashioned glittery sweet wrappers, oh and make sure you boil the egg and let it cool first, another way is to put food colouring in the boiling water which colours the shell too!

Its important to bear in mind that an egg is in fact the embryo of a chicken, it is actually very bizzare you want your child to decorate an embryo of another species, how would you like some other person decorating your embryo? It is most disturbing.

if you can get a comic relief nose from sainsburys use the stick on face pieces and then use strands of wool for hair, if not make your own funny face by cutting up bits of scrap material
