I have an OBD/OBD2 reader and....?

used it on my '95 Firebird. It indicated that two 'Quad Drivers' were bad. What is a 'Quad Driver'?

quad drivers are circuits internal to your cars computer they are used to directly control various high amperage circuits such as alternator field . oxygen sensor heater circuit or indirectly such as cooling fan relay [or speed controller for cooling fan some models] a/c magnetic clutch circuit etc. you get the idea. now when a quad driver fault is displayed it is not necessarily a computer fault if your scan tool is capable go to each of the listed out-put functions and verify that each operates normally [this may involve the use of a digital multi-meter, a 12 volt test lamp and the proper wiring diagrams for your vehicle generally a quad driver will turn itself off if the current sensed becomes too high ow too low [after all affected circuit tests are preformed and faults remedied, may codes be cleared and the car be test driven. if the code comes back at this point the computer can most probably be condemned and replaced. have patience these problems often take more time to figure out than the actual repair good luck and follow a logical step by step strategy.

Quad drivers are the transistors inside the computer that controls outputs. Each quad driver control four outputs. If one the items is shorted then the whole quad driver shuts down

like for instance one could control the fuel pump the fan the coil pack and so forth
so now what you need to do is to give the code number and that can detirmine which items the quad driver controls then replace or repair any wiring defects so its not too simple to fix if you are a novice take it to someone who knows
