Marvel has shot themselves in the foot with this one. People laugh at Captain America and Superman as super ‘Boy Scouts’, but the fact is they are what it means to be a hero. They are the definition. We have plenty of ‘anti’ heroes. Too many, in fact. And the main thing about them is, that their names could all be Anger-Management Man, without having to change their costumes.
Marvel will eventually regret having sawn off the tree limb they were sitting on. I just hope that they come to their sense in time to keep the company from going under.

It's not really unforgivable if it's a good story that's meaningful. And let's face it, if you think he's not coming back, then I've got some land you might be interested in buying...
Let's face it though, though Captain America is an icon, his solo book has tended to sell rather poorly for a long time now. Not that that is an excuse to just off the guy, but it's interesting how some many people whine about Cap being killed when most of those people don't even read his books.

Other than Spider-Man, Captain America is my favorite Marvel character. Ed Brubaker (the series writer) is a fantastic writer. I love his work. Personally, I find it disheartening that killing off Cap is where Marvel has decided to have taken things, but time will only tell. The grand story of what Marvel wants to weave isn't over yet. And in most superhero comics, most stories are really rarely ever finite. So to call killing Cap as something unforgivable, to me, is far reaching. As long as Cap's death has meaning and resonance to what Marvel is trying to accomplish, and have lasting effects, then there you go. At the end of the day, I'm okay with it as long as a good story is told.

I don't know who's running things at Marvel these days, but whoever it is should be fired at minimum. Not just for what they allowed to happen to Cap, but have you seen the Beast lately? He's a freaking cat. Now, the Stranger can reform Battleworld and impersonate the Beyonder? I don't even want to know what else they screwed up. Oh, and the movies they allowed to pass to make a few cheap bucks now, they ruined the Fantastic Four movie and X men 3. How much will it take before Stan retakes control and Kicks some a$$.

I feel your pain, brother. I've been a Cap fan since the early '70's. And I sincerely don't think the people of Marvel will simply 'kill off' a GREAT american icon. Even they can't be THAT stupid. Sadly, it's all about $ and shock value. I know he'll be back and even if he doesn't return, I still have a truckload of back issues to always relish.

I find what Marvel is doing to all of their flagship comics is unforgivable. Handing so many key series over to dip shi ts
who have made them into watered down, boring, all looks the same manga.
Jack Kirby has turned in his grave.
Stan Lee should be ashamed.

It is exactly this type of thing that led me to stop reading comics. It's all about the quick sales. Give me a break. He'll be back within a few months, of course.

I stopped reading Captain America shortly after the government commision took away his shield and outfit a few years back. I'm not surprised that they killed him, just like I won't be surprised when they realize that the "super soldier serum" in his body caused his body to shut down, but not die. Or some other lame resurection story line. Maybe they'll bring Thor out of retirement to have him appeal to Odin to bring him back. Cap was one of the select few who was able to lift Mjolnir in order to assist Thor in battle. Could be time for the debt to be repaid...

This death is all that comic book writers have been doing lately to "shake up the universes". Instead of trying to think of a really gripping story, they just kill someone off. Dc has done the same thing with the whole identity crisis series.
Also one thing you have to remember in comics, no one stays dead. I mean they brought back BUCKY AND JASON TODD FOR GODS SAKE!!!

i agree with everybody, but no major character in the marvelverse stays dead for long.
even those these are other comicbook worlds these guys didnt 'play dead' very long i.e. batman, superman
stan lee better get off his behind and take charge again, sure his tv show was mediocre at best but i stopped caring about it when 'lemuria' was told to turn in her costume.
we should form a mob and protest the 'death' of captain america and the regime of the furor george w. bush
