Wired ethernet adapters have speeds of 100 or 1000 mbps and are not disrupted by interference or intervening structures. Wireless speeds are 11 mbps (802.11b), 54 (802.11g), 540 (802.11n), but actual speeds will depend on your specific conditions. Note that your broadband connection is likely .768-7.0 mbps, so unless you're using your connection to file share between your own computers, the broadband speed will be the constraining factor.
