Yes you can spoil a child with unwarranted praise.
Praise should be given only when earned. You don't get a raise if you don't deserve it do you? We are raising a generation of irresponsible spoiled brats who do not know how to work!!! OOPS "I said a bad word", WORK!

No. What you see as unwarranted praise, isn't unwarranted in the eyes of a parent. I will always envelop my child in praise, so they know the feeling of being unconditional love and support. That's how you build a strong self esteem and prepare them for the real world where they will face many, many obstacles.

Depends on their age, I believe. I think the really little ones need praise all the time, but once kids are into competitive sports they have to learn how to handle disappointment and that it's okay to lose sometimes.

I blame the 80's...Reagan & his covert buddies made everyone so materialistic it became a lifestyle for the generation of that era...An era of designer labels & spoiled children, thats where it began, not the 60's ...they were so uncomplicated compared to the 80's..

don't get me started. okay, you did. the 60's brought out the "special" in everyone. the demise of parenting and consequences vanished. People named kids "friend, sunshine and so on". It was easier to not be the parent and try to be the kids friend which was the start of the ball rolling down hill.
