Ever play golf? Every green, on most creditable links, are rolled at least three days a week. The cavaet to that is they are also aerated the alternating days.
If you are using a walk behind or tow water filled roller there is nothing wrong with using it every time you cut the grass, provided, there has been no rainfall in the past 48 hours. If it rains more than an inch in any week do not roll. That is when compaction occurs.
Do yourself a favor and make sure you do a core aeration (rental machine) in the spring and mid-fall. I'ld ask my neighbor if he wanted to borrow my roller!!! Keep going!

I've heard it both ways....compacting of the soil was mentioned but doesn't make much sense since the riders are just as heavy. We have no choice because of the amount of moles we have to battle every year... sometimes we can get rid of them completely but it's not spring yet and our lawn is already disturbed by them. Talk about a bumpy ride....

We are trying a new product from Gardens Alive along with something we know works but is very expensive...fox urine. We go thru this ritual every year...they come, we get rid of them, by spring their underground tunneling begins : |

Rolling our grass hasn't killed it yet...
