I had a hysterectomy when I was 22. I had my first child when I was 20 and my second (and last) baby when I was 21. My uterus couldn't handle the strain and prolapsed. (which is just a fancy word for slipped out of my vagina). I had severe back ache and couldn't have sex because you could actually SEE my uterus (which looked like a tongue) hanging out! The doctor said that he could tack up my uterus and bladder (which had also prolapsed) and I could get pregnant and have another baby if I wanted one but I would have to be on strict bedrest and possibly not carry the baby to term. He said that I would have to have the hysterectomy right afterwards or if I was sure i was finished having children I could have it right then. I had an almost 2 yr. old and a 9 month old at the time so I told him to go ahead and do it. He said that it was going to be hard to get the insurance company to agree to pay for a 22yr. old to have a hysterectomy. We had no problems and I had my hysterectomy and I've been fine since. I am now 28!

Dont think there is really an appoximate age as to have this, just based on the need. I had to have one at 35 for abnormal cervical cells. On the other hand, my s-i-l had one at 24 due to uterus problems.

Realistically, the operation itself can be done at any age. BUT, you will never find a doctor willing to do it on someone within their childbearing age.
