My friend is looking to start a residential construction business in the UK (pre fabricated residential homes) - are there any good sites for information, or any good advice in general about the industry you can provide? Many thanks!

Make sure you have someone onboard who understands the Construction Industry Scheme - the tax scheme for all those involved in the construction industry. It's very easy to mess up very quickly if you don't understand what that's all about. Any good accountant should be able to advise you how to go about joining.

You should assess the competition in the area you are going to set up the business and also the land that will available. I used to work for a large residential builder and it's a very competitive business when it come to buying land.

Make sure you have someone on board who is up to date and very well versed on Health & Safety.
