Baltimore, Indiana was not destroyed by a flood of the Wabash, but rather failed as a community after the Wabash and Erie Canal was completed, drawing commerce away from Baltimore's side of the river. Baltimore was established in 1829 and was intially successful, but the construction of the canal began in 1832.
