We have a democratically elected representative republic with three branches of government: the executive (the President), the legislative (two houses of Congress ) and the judiciary (the Courts). This government was formed by The United States Constitution.

The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the United States of America. It was adopted in its original form on September 17, 1787 by the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and later ratified by the people in conventions in each state in the name of "We the People."

The USA does not have a government in the form of a democracy. We have a Representative Republic. This were each of the states elect officials to the Federal Government to represent their interests and views. These officials are called Congressmen and Senators.

Here the majority does not always rule, it is many times the will of the minority that becomes law. Our elected officials feel this is good for the country.

The flaw in this government is that only a small percentage of the people able to vote, actually do vote. So we are stuck with politicians that mislead many into voting for them by their lies and deception. They are many times financed by large corporations and labor unions. Unfortunately, too many Americans are uneducated in the workings of their government and vote for a political party and not the best person for the position.

Our gov was formed as a republic which meant Of, By and For the People. The only word that I can come up with now for our gov is corrupt. You have to be on the take to make it to levels higher than local gov.

We are a Democracy over here.
Our goverment is formed by a thing called Popualar Soverienty where the people vote to elect a representative or our president (unfortunately he is a moron, and i dont want him representing me nor do i want Kerry.)
we also elect a congress which has the power to veto Bills made by the president, Veto meaning cancel, and the President has the power to veto bills made by Congress. Both Congress and President try to do their best to follow the consitution (Sometimes i wonder if Bush even thinks there is such thing as the Constitution) and make laws and decisions based upon it. The veto is for check and balance that way we can remain a democracy. The congress also votes on a bill and if majority rules it is given to the president who can either accept it or Veto it.
The highest law in America is the constitution and it is their duty to follow it best they can.

Congress (Senate & House of Representitives) is directly elected by the people of each of the 50 individual states.

The President is indirectly elected by the people of each state through a process known as the electoral college.
