The places that tend to get the most rain are on the south western coast. This is because the winds from the Caribbean and USA cross the Atlantic allowing low pressure systems to form and develop. These bring heavy rains and the south west coast is usually the first place to get hit with the full force of what the system holds. The system will then start dissipate over the UK after - sometimes it restrengthens over the North Sea. The eastern coast is also subject to heavy rains as low pressure systems can develop in the North Sea. There is no general wind pattern there so they can move in any direction.
