The trains between Bristol, and Edinburgh, are Virgin Cross Country Voyagers. Direct weekday trains, are at: 06:15, 08:29,10:29,12:29,14:29,16:29.
All go via the ECML, apart from the 06:15, which runs via the WCML, and is booked to be an 8-car set.
Yes Conrad is 90% right, but do NOT do what Lyn W says, or you will get an excess fare, for going via Reading, of at least £100.
I say that Conrad is "90%" right, because the Voyagers will either take the Sheffield-Doncaster-York route, or the Sheffield-Wakefield- Leeds-York route, not both, unless there's weekend engineering work, causing the train to take the longer route.
All tickets between Bristol and Edinburgh are not valid via the longer Bath/Reading/Leamington route.
If you have bought a Virgin Value single, your ticket is ONLY valid for the train your booked on.

It goes via Cheltenham, Birmingham New Street, Stafford, Crewe and York I think. There is also the Poole to Edinburgh service via Southampton, Basingstoke, Reading. This means you can get the Bristol to London Paddington train and change at Reading.
Put " National Rail Travel" into your search engine. There are a number of sites that will give you the route and options.
I use this quite a lot as I travel by rail quite often. It is very helpful.
Hope this helps
