I am just over 30 weeks pregnant. This past week I have been woken up by stong, almost shooting pains in my stomach. It's probably happened 3 or 4 times. It hasnt lasted long at all, and only once did it happen twice in one night. Everything has checked out normal with the baby so far with the doctor, and she is SO active all day and night, that I have never needed to bother counting kicks. Any Idea's what this is? I hate to be the one to call the doctor with every concern. I am a first time mom, and could spend all day everyday talking to them! Thanks in advance.

It could just be the round ligaments supporting your growing baby. It doesn't sound like too much to be concerned about at this point. If it becomes persistent or the pain worsens, don't hesitate to contact your doctor. If you have an appointment coming up soon, you might mention it to your doctor while you're there. The only stupid question is the one that goes unasked.

As you get closer and closer to delivery time, your body starts gearing up by having false contractions - also known as Braxton-Hicks contractions. I think these are supposed to strengthen your abdominal muscles in preparation for labour.

You're at the stage in your pregnancy where you should be seeing your doctor every 2 or 3 weeks anyway - why not ask them about it next time you're in, or give them a call in the morning? That's what you're (or your insurance company) paying them for!

it is your ligaments and muscle mass. they'll try this because of the fact they are already being stretched out. i'm getting those pains too, besides as sharp painful twinges as quickly as I circulate too quickly the incorrect way.

I would bet it's baby laying on your sciatic nerve, it can cause sharp shooting pains in your back, abdominal area and legs.. that's why it goes away because the baby moves off of it.
