My car uses fuel injector system. I ran out of gas recently. I then put gas in my tank but the car still would not start. I tried to get a jump start from another car, but that did not work. The mechanic is now telling me that i need a new motor. I would love for someone to please explain what went on with my car, and to tell me if it is actually posibble that i might need a new motor

you probably just burned out the electric fuel pump in the gas tank. The fuel in the tank actually cools down the pump, once you run low and the air hits the pump, you burn the pump out. I would recomend you replace the pump and the fuel filter too while you are at it.
good luck............

ps.... you dont need an a new engine, just a new mechanic

I dont see why you would need a new motor just because you run out of gas. I think you need a new mechanic!

After you are sure there is enough gas in the tank to allow the fuel pump to pick it up(could be 3 gallonsor more depending on the angle of the car and the location of the pickup point)
Try the following. Turn key "on" for 10 seconds, the off foe 10 seconds. Do this 5-6 times. What this does is start the fuel pump so that fuel is pumped towards the engine. Then try starting it . Good Luck

i doubt that it would need a new motor. there is a possibility that you may have just ruined your injectors. but, i would lean more to the possibility of a dead fuel pump. see a fuel pump needs to be immersed in the fuel to keep primed. without being primed, it is hard for it to pump fuel to the engine. try just turning on the key and listening for the fuel pump in the gas tank. if you can hear it, just try and let it get fuel to the engine. sometimes you need to use some either to get the engine started. this will pull fuel from the tank. if you hear nothing in the tank, you may need to replace the pump. just a forewarning, replacing the fuel pump should not be attempted by someone that has never done it before. before you tear the car completely apart though. always start at the simplest explaination........ check the fuses!

More likely if you ran out of gas you may have damaged the fuel pump in the tank. When you say a new motor, do you mean that the guy says you need an engine?
Are you sure that the car stopped because it ran out of gas or was it very low and by coincidence the engine just failed?
Put and edit in your question and post more details

You probably got some water in the line from the condensation in the tank.

Try starter fluid, spray it right into the throttle body with the throttle open for a couple of seconds. Then back off and have someone crank it as soon as you back up.

If that doesn't work after a couple of tries, check the fuel pump if you can by running wire from the battery right to the terminals on the fuel pump. If you hear it purr it fine.

Try the starter fluid again.
Doesn't fix it, I'm at a loss.

gas injectors infrequently get grimy now days. you likely have a project with the crankshaft or camshaft sensor no longer pulsing the injectors. Is the ses mild on and function you had the motor vehicle scanned for codes? what's the gas tension? 40 to 50lbs is often used. Why did you alter the gas pump, undesirable tension? you will no longer get everywhere merely guessing. Have a mechanic examine the counsel on a scanner, no longer in elementary terms test for codes. a foul temperature sensor can lean out the gas and save a motor vehicle from commencing. There are too many things that could reason your motor vehicle to no longer start to wager at. Telling us the kind,12 months and make of your journey might help!

The plugs may have fouled, pull one out and see if it's OK.Find another mechanic, they think they are doctors so get a second opinion. Were you jump starting it because you were turning it over so much?If so that can foul plugs quick on a fuel injected system. Good luck.

You may have distributed dirt from the bottom of your fuel tank through the fuel line causing a blockage. Not a good idea to go below a 1/4 of a tank. It's eventually going to lead to trouble.
