I have finished paying off my home and my landlord will not send me my title. The DMV says that he owes back taxes and fees and fines for not paying for the sticker and he wants me to pay for them. Anyone know how to go about getting my title?

Is this a mobile home? I ask because you're talking about a landlord but you're also talking about the DMV. Brick and mortar homes don't have a DMB sticker so I'll assume this is a mobile home.

Do you have a contract? In the contract, who was supposed to pay the taxes and DMV stickers?

Send him a certified letter asking him for the title, signed and notorized (I'm also assuming that this is handled like a vehicle title) along with the bill of sale so that you can register it in your name. You'll also need to find out what the back taxes are and license fees and either ask him to send you a check for those (if he was liable for them under your contract).

If all else fails, you'll probably have to seek the advice of an attorney to force him to turn it over to you. Make sure you have evidence of your payments.

Do you have any written agreement or contract that the two of you started with? You mention the DMV. What type of home is this (Mobile) Did you have a lease agreement and who does it say is responsible to pay those taxes. Get all of the paperwork you have, any agreement, lease, receipts, anything you have and maybe even the DMV can help you. After all they want their money too.

Well, I would recommend that you talk to the landlord and his boss. When you do talk to them bring your papers for your house and your sticker. When that happens everything should lay in place.

Titles are recorded in the county records office. Are you sure the person claiming to own the house actually owned it to begin with?

If you have proof of payments than take him to court. Now, I'm assuming we're talking about an automobile and not a house?
