When 'right' and 'wrong' are already in themselves quite subjective, how popular a view is certainly does not determine its degree of 'rightness'.
In my life, I have never really stopped to consider whether what I am doing is going 'along with the crowd' or 'against the crowd', or whether I am 'popular' or 'unpopular' as a person. Come to think of it, I have probably spent most of my time going against the crowd simply because of who I am. I am not sure if that has made me any less popular - all that I know is that I am happy and whole and fully able to respect myself! =)
I will definitely go against the crowd to do what I think is right (which may not make me any less popular anyway!) In fact, most people would admire people who are able to stand up for who they are more than those who aren't. Whether they say so is another matter.
Praises, glory, snide remarks are all everyday things that pass you by - the people who provide those may not even mean what they are saying. The truth is what stays with us! Why would a person living in a world where there are people fighting for their freedom every minute choose to limit him/herself to what he/she perceives others to want him/her to be? The strongest people are those who do not need to rely on others to make them strong!
All the best to you in life! =)

No, I would not go with the popular view if it was wrong. Yes I'd go against them, especially if I believe the crowd is doing something I feel goes against my belief of what is right.
Pretty much everything that was happening in highschool I didn't buy into and I had a very very small group of friends as a result. Now everyone I see from highschool who was so popular gets drunk every night and cries to me (the bartender) about how they'd take it all back. It's just very sad, because most people go along with it because they are afraid of being alone. But hey when you are alone there is no pressure to be anyone but yourself.

Have you ever considered how "unpopular" you can become by being "popular". ie. the person whom everyone follows and wants to be, is often very lonely. Pop stars lead some of the loneliest lives, as we have recently witnessed watching Britney and Robin Williams.
i have noticed how often a talented, intelligent, beautiful person is isolated by their very gifts, simply because others envy them, and cannot handle their own feelings of jealousy. I have some very gifted friends, whom i watch having to deal with other people's very jealous attitudes. Can feel like you are very "unpopular" when "popular"!
So you can choose to be unpopular by going against the crowd, but perhaps being a crowd leader is equally as likely to make you unpopular in the end.

The popular view in the 1930's was appeasement. In the light of subsequent events, was it right? Churchill went against the crowd, was derided and scorned, and look what happened.
I prefer to follow my own opinions, or at least to take a considered view from available evidence. Faddish? Popular opinion probably is.

I am unpopular for going against the crowd. What those people think of me is neither here nor there.

Yes I am. I have never been a sheep who blindly followed the crowd. Most of the fads and popular trends are just plain stupid and short lived. It will drive you insane trying to do the 'in' thing all the time.

My popularity on Yahoo answers is dwindling. I've even been called 'bitter' in recent days. Why, I do not know. Such is life! Tomorrow is another day.

Yes. We all have a right ot our opinions. But if the others give good reasons to think otherwise, we can change our opinions, can't we?
