it may still hurt today, give it some time. apply the ointment per the artist who did it and try to be patient. hopefully it will heal. the artist did open a new pack of needles and wore gloves right, if not you may need to be checked for heptatis C. but otherwise at this point there is probably no need to be concerned.

It will be tender for a few days. You just had needles dragged across your skin repeatedly for an extended period of time. Plus it's likely mildly swollen.
Here's what I do when I have a new tattoo...
1) Put some ice on it a few times a day.
2) Let it breathe--like any cut, it needs air to heal. Don't put a bandage over it.
3) Keep it clean. Wash with a mild soap very VERY gently at least twice a day.
4) Use an antibiotic like Polysporen. Some people say not too but every tattoo artist I've been too and met uses it and says to put it on in a THIN layer twice a day
5) If it's still sore after a few days and seems puffy--re:swollen--call the tattoo shop for suggestions and/or visit your doctor to make sure it's not infected.

Ovcourse it will hurt for a while, you skin has just got hundreds of little holes poked into it, it will start to heel up in a day or too, and there will be scabbing, do not pick the scabs, the place that you got the ink done probably gave you some type of skin cream to put on it, use it , it will help the healing process, congrats on the work, If you are a chick , I hope you did not get it done on your lower back (small of your back), If you did this will cause you lots of problems in the future if you decide to have kids, because they will not be able to give you a epidural properly, but i hope you like the work you got " take pride in your hide"................

Sorry, but it is going to hurt for a while still. The tattooist should have given you the name of an antibiotic cream to use. It is very important to keep your tattoo moist and clean until such time as the scabs develop and then fall off. If you haven't got any moisturizing and antibiotic ointment, head for your pharmacy.
The main reason that I know this, is because I "gave" my son a tattoo for his 21st birthday some years ago.

The location were you got your tattoo will be sore for a few days, it is an invasion of a part of your body after all. If the pain/soreness is unbearable try an icepack wrapped in a towel for a few minutes and/or taking a non-aspirin pain reliever. Follow the artist's instructions for after care of your new ink.

Since your tatoo is still fresh, it will leave your skin, and muscles painful and sore for a few days. Apply lots of antibacterial cream to it to reduce any infection, DO NOT TAKE ANY PAIN RELIEVERS! doing this will cause your blood to thin and causes you to bleed more. As for the pain, Only your body will be able to adjust to the pain.

Best advice is don't ever do that again. Women who think tat's are "cool" just don't understand that most men find those to be a huge turn-off.
