it uses a fair bit. also hibernation mode doesnt really save that much. best to turn it off when you arent using it. also better for the life span of the computer to not be running all the time.

Let's say if you have your computer on for 8 hours per day, the cost might be $75 per year. Leaving it on 24 hours a day might cost as much as $200 for the whole year. I recommend that you leave your computer on during the day if you go to it all the time. Try to turn it on just once each day. Of course, if you find yourself using the computer at 7am, noon, 3pm, 7pm and then 10pm, you might as well leave it on overnight too.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

It depends on what type you have - desktop or laptop.
Most current systems, especially laptops, will power down the monitor and hard drive to reduce power consumption. Newer Windows software will enter standby mode to reduce power consumption.
If your laptop is running on the battery and not plugged in to the house power, it won't use any at all. It will use more to recharge the battery later.
If you leave a desktop system fully powered and operational, it can use 100-300 watts per hour.

It can, but if you set the standby mode you should be good. The newer computers today all come with energy saver so it doesn't take up to much juice.
