Sweetheart if the babies only problem is that its "underweight" it should be fine. I dont know exactly what you are asking but I do know that when babies are born at 36 weeks and some even 34 weeks their lungs functio just fine. My son was born 5 weeks premature and was and is perfect. My daugter weighed 1.7 pounds which is 771 kgs almost 14 yrs ago. My son had steriods at 26 weeks gestation {I was high risk for premature birth seein as my daughter was born a micropremature infant and I have cervical issues so the steriods gave him the boost he would need incase he came early} which is the suggested time frame for giving steriods to boost lung development. Both my kids survived and did fine and are perfect

Having been through a stressful pregnancy and birth involving the SCBU we all eventually came home and got the all clear 1 year ago. I would advise that you go back to the Doctor and take a list of questions (even those you maybe don't want to know the answer to) and get all these things explained to you, what will happen when the babies born, where will the baby go if their are problems (ie SCBU), will you be able to stay close to the baby (sometimes this isn't possible but you and your partner will obviously be allowed access to the SCBU if this is the case), what happens when you come home cos it might be fine and you guys will be home within a couple of days. Ask lots. We didn't as we kinda went with the theory of if we ignore it then it won't happen (s-t-u-p-i-d). Looking back though, I wish we had asked and got all these things sorted out in our heads then if any of it happens you maybe will be a bit calmer about it all. I am sure it will all work out and you will all be home safe and sound within a couple of days. Hope you enjoy Mummyhood....it's the best.

Your baby should be fine. 8 months is a fine time to give birth, especially if your baby has had steriods. My baby was born then too, had steriod injections for his lungs and did well. He is now a big, strong healthy 6 year old. My third child was also born at 8 months but had no steroid injections. But he, too is now a healthy 9 month old. Your condition sounds like "failure to thrive." It is nothing you have done wrong, sometimes the placenta just doesn't do its job. Your doctors are doing the best to ensure your baby a safe birth and outcome. Just relax, enjoy the remainder of your pregnancy and try not to worry. I know its hard, but your baby should be fine. My very best of luck to you and your little one!

First off, I'm sorry you are going through all of this.. 997 grams equals out to around 2lbs. They call this condition IUGR or Intra Uterine Growth Retardation. they are right, eating won't do a whole lot to help out.. since everything else is looking good that is a step in the right direction. giving you steroids to mature baby's lungs and delivering is the best way, as the baby just isn't doing well in the womb. Your baby will be very tiny and need lots of special care and in the end your baby may end up with some special needs.. a lot of very premature babies end up with vision problems etc. It will be a rough road, I won't lie, but the outcome for baby is better on the outside when this happens..I did a quick lookup and the survival rate for babies born weighing 750g to 1000g is around 85%. the reason for it may be found later on , like genetic reasons etc. Best of luck to you and baby

OH PLEASE!! that doctor wants you in more pain and wants more money from your insurance company.
my mother has 7 children. the biggest one was exactly 6 pounds. i was 3 pounds 1 oz. . i have sisters who are twins who weighed exactly 3 pounds TOGETHER. we are all just fine. healthy in fact.
my father is one of 32 children. the biggest one was 5 1/2 pounds. smallest one was 2 pounds 11 oz. they were all just fine.

some babies are just small. the doctors are wanting to put a guilt trip on you. they do that, you know. don't let them win. you are the mother and you know what's best for your child. they don't.

Do not worry. Leave this on God. If HE has given you a child then HE will give him/her life also. God is ALMIGHTY. Rest assured. Be positive. Have faith.
