This song just cuts straight through to the heart everytime i hear it, i think of the excrutiatingly lonely days and nights these young women must have faced, in such a time of fear and tragedy, just knowing that you may never see your friends and family again, that you may never make it to meet your new husband, that you may not even make it to your final destination, must have been such a very difficult decision to make, that you made out of love for your family and your country. My Grandparents were young men and women in this era, when i hear this song, it makes me smile, knowing how very brave and courageous my grandparents and their generation were.
