Content are happy are synonyms - meaning they have a similar meaning...but that's why English is so tough to master - because there are so many SPECIFIC words for what you want to describe.
In regards to work, a great quote to live by is: "Love what you do and do what you love; the money will follow." What this means is that no job is worth the money if you don't enjoy what you do everyday.
Now, this is not to say that if you are really hurting for money, you should turn down a job. You can always keep looking for what you love to do or begin working on what you love until it pays enough to provide food, water and shelter for you (and family).
So follow the quote. If you love what you do, you'll do it better; people will notice and you will get paid more than "content" wages, but "happy" wages.

1) content- satisfied with what one has or is; not wanting more/ syn. - does not include happy
2) happy- characterized by or indicative of pleasure, contentment / syn.- content
Being happy is not a constant. You can be happy and still want more - or not. But the possibility to still want is there.
But being content means you do not want anything more.
Even broke or poor people can be materialistic. This means to be more concerned with material things than with the spiritual or intellectual.
This also means you can be rich or wealthy and NOT be materialistic putting spiritual and cultural values far above "things".
So who says making 30,000 a year take away things that make you happy, or do you mean "content"?

happiness and contentment go hand in hand. and its all in the mind.
u may b content abt ur 11000/yr job, but when u look at ur friends whom u studied with r making 30000/yr, u will not remain content and bcome unhappy. so, if surroundings dont affect u then u r happy and content.
also, if u want luxuries that dont fit into ur 11000/yr pay, then u feel not content/unhappy.
conclusion is that if u r satisfied then u r happy AND content.

I think contentment is in the heart. I know people who are millionaires and still not happy..hence the old saying "money cannot but happiness." As much as I would like to win the lottery, from what I hear its more trouble than it's worth. My family makes me content,my job,my home. I like my life.So I am content.I would like to have more, but I am happy with what I have.

you should have an aim in life. if you have an aim to get a salary then you have to work till you achieve. that is were happiness arises. atherwise if you aim for 30000 and you recieve 11ooo and tried to be satisfied with it you will only be forcing not applying. there happiness is absent only forcement of contenment is present.
in such a situation you would not be able to enjot the leisure with full heart. you can only see people enjoying
so hit your goal and be happy. don't go for shortcuts. life will not be smooth.

People are dissatisfied because consumer culture suggests to them that they can have 'EVERYTHING' and being a good consumer is a pseudo-moral imperative for citizens of capitalist countries.

Mexicanb.....
Think about this, ok?
Happiness means money and money means happiness....
or,
Money doesn't mean happiness and happiness doesn't mean money....
Which makes the most sense to you?
Money is not everything......
I know as I've been there.
Sincerely,
John
