Swimming is not an instinct we learn when we are only a few days old. It is a thign we need to learn how to do! I was born in the hospital but I learne dhow to swim when I was 3 because I took swimming lessons when I was 2 years old.

I don't think so.. It doesn't matter if you were born in water or not. Swimming is a lesson to learn. it's just that when you started to swim at a very young age, of course you will learn more and there's a tendency that you will become a good swimmer..

No. What little babies do when placed in water is not actually swimming. It is a reflex from being in the womb. Makes no difference to how they will swim as children, it just looks cute.

my nephew was born in a hospital, and he could swim at 1- of course only in shallow pools, but now at 3 he can swim fully. It's just a matter of letting them try it earlier than later.

babies are natural born swimmers.
It is our jobs as mothers to encourage such behaviour in our children.
They only get frightened of swimming if the parents don't submit their children to water from a vulnerable age. (Birth - 3)
Kids copy parental behaviour. How ever Mum or dad handle the water, that is how your kids will behave. Ther are confident if you are.

Actually yes, a survey done by Kansas University found that 87 percent of babies exposed to water at a young age learn to swim quicker than babies who aren't.

It would seem like it should, right? I had my 3 at home, but couldn't afford a birthing pool...so I can't speak from personal experience...but, well, actually, they're in water right until the time they're born anyway, so it shouldn't make that much diff. for them. It does for the mom, though, I hear!
