Some people say that anyone can pretend to play a guitar and scream over a microphone. Others say that anyone can simply talk over a beat. These are both caricatures because rap and rock involve much more skill and creativity than simply screaming over a microphone or rhyming over a beat. As a listener of both, my impression is that rap demands more creativity in the studio but rock demands more skill on stage. What do others think about it?

Please I would appreciate answers from people who like both types of music, not ignorant people who say things like "rock is gay" or "rap isn't music". I know for a fact that both have crappy songs (which are the majority) but both also produce some awesome songs.

Clark6561, I said if you're ignorant about either of the two types of music don't answer the question.

bob believes they both take a lot of creativity, the good ones from each gerner that is, like the crappy mainstream rap we have today takes very little if any at all.
bob dont know much bout rock, but bob knows to make a GOOD rap it takes a lot.

you have to have good word play, drop atleast one good similie or metaphor, drop words that rhyme and actually have RELEVANCE to each other and not just random words that rhyme, use more complex words like ones from the thesaurars or what evcer you call it and not just use common everyday words, find different ways to say things, put that all together and tell a story using all that criteria bob has said above and then put that story in a presentable manner. then to be a good rapper in general, on top of all of that you have to be able to drop ORIGINAL and UNREHEARSHED bars in freestyles and you have to be able to think quick and drop catchy devastating rhymes in battles. a lot of people who dont understand think its easy to make a GOOD rap, but in reality its a very rare skill that this generation so badly lacks and takes work, bob admits you have to probobly work harder to learn to play a instrument good, then a born lyricist does to make a good rap, but if you aint a born lyricist it is extremely hard to make a good rap song.

it wouldnt be fair for bob to judge because bob dont listen to rock and dont have the slightest idea bout it.

Rock music. Most rock songs are built from scratch so it becomes a trial and error process. Rap on the other hand uses
samples of other people's music.Even though some rap artists
use some live musicians, most of them are more dependent
on technology than their musical skills. To be honest with you If you listen to most rap songs the drums kinda sound the same.
Sure they have a cool groove but they repeat themselves over and over again.
