You can call the board of health. If it is dangerous he will have to fix it. Don't worry about his attitude, he already doesn't like you. I would force him to get it fixed and then move.

I think it depends on the mold. If it is the kind in the shower stalls, that's poor ventilation--open a window. If it's elsewhere in the home, you might consider contacting the agricultural extension of your state or a local university to ask them whether they would examine a sample of it and identify it, and its potential toxicity. If you get a positive for a dangerous mold, go to your city or county's building inspector and demand an inspection (you can always do this first). The inspector HAS to follow up with an on-site visit. If confirmed, I would withhold rent until it is removed--but chances are, you're probably going to have to move to protect yourself.
