I have a Pent IV four years old or so. Not used much. Hit by lightening or something when storm. Plugged in direct to outlet.
power box blew. Replaced was working, not the greatest but usable wouldn't read that DVD roms were installed and different errors. Now won't work at all, just beeps even when everything taken off MB and just power up.
I believe it is the MB itself.
Would any MB work that is set up for an intel P IV?
How would I know if it is worth it to fix?
Where should I go for parts or comp, price watch.com?
I have some knowledge of computers and putting one together, I am comfortable with, just need to know I have the right parts to put together. I have a case, dvd burners, video card, power box already.

Your MB is bad, the beeps are a BIOS code that says something is wrong with your mobo. With everything unplugged from the mobo, it will give you an alarm due to 1. no processor and 2. no RAM. Any board that will take a P4 processor will work for a replacement. You should be able to pick one up at most computer part stores or online at places such as Tiger Direct, New Egg, and Price Watch. Shop around and look for a good deal.

Theres a more than good chance that the processor is damaged as well and I wouldn't be happy with your RAM. After a surge has caused damage it is good practise to replace all 3 at the same time. Putting a damaged processor into a good MoBo can cause damage to the new board.

Okay, so you had a power surge that took out your power supply? Power surges almost always take out 3 parts of computers: power supplies, motherboards, and video cards. So, try replacing your video card first; if that doesn't solve the problem, then the only thing left is your motherboard.
