We don't have it in Australia. My Mum tells some funny stories about TV back in the 60s when you had to have one out here, except us being Aussies and not liking rules, no one had one. She said everyone used to freak out if there was a knock on the door at night time in case it was the licensing man!
I think it went out a long time ago - there's never been a tax since i've been alive and i'm almost 30. Maybe you should stop getting one so you can't watch us keep beating you in the cricket and stuff! (Just joking!)
We have council tax but its known as the rates - this goes to council to pay for things like garbage collection and stuff. the price differes depending on the value of your land. Unlike the UK, you do not pay this unless you are the homeowner, i know that you guys pay council tax as renters. You can't do that here.
You guys have loads of outdated taxes including the TV licence, death tax was abolished here in the 70s.
You need to get Tony on to it!!

set up an on-line account for the television licence and pay by ability of Direct Debit - its a lot more beneficial accessible. contact the council the day when you've moved in - you do not favor to do it in the previous.

As was previously mentioned, we don't have a television licence in Australia but to make up for it we have a hell of a lot of ads in between programs. When I was in the UK a few years ago I noticed that you had a television licence but far fewer ads than we do.
