I can hear and feel a "clunk" when I release the clutch... it usually happens in mid range gears, 2-4, and less noticable in gears 1 and 5. Any idea what this could be? I'm a broke student and don't want to have to take my bike to the workshop if it's not necessary! Thanks for the help...

Your bike has a lot of clearance where the gears lock together for the different speeds, it's normal to here a bit of "clunk" when you engage the clutch or suddenly hit the throttle. On the other hand if it's loud there could be something binding and releasing in the gearbox, that would mean taking the engine apart. Most likely you have a problem with your clutch cable or your lever, does your clutch move smoothly? If it has a sticky feeling ' hard to pull or doesn't let of easy, lubricate the cable and check all the moving parts that are connected to it.

Possibly a snapped clutch spring. Pull the cover off and see if anything looks amiss. It will only cost you the price of a gasket.

Not much to go on ??, I'd start by checking chain tension and check to be sure both sprockets are tight. Be sure you gear case has enough oil in it.
