Should just plug in and work.
Sometimes, the volume controls have been twiddled with. So double click the volume icon near the clock. Make sure the essential sliders are in the middle or higher, and that mute is turned off (unchecked).

Headsets usually have two jack plugs. The pink one is usually the microphone and should be plugged into the pink socket on the PC soundcard. The orange jack is for the headphones and should be plugged into the green output jack on the PC soundcard. Yo may need to adjust volume controls by right clicking the Windows Volume icon in the System Tray. Check that the WAV input in the mixer is not muted.
