Make sure your skin is well primed before you apply your foundation. Do a facial scrub once a week, and always apply a good moisturiser before you apply your foundationas the moisturiser helps create a smooth layer on your skin. If your skin is oily choose an oil-free moisturiser. Wait a few minutes for the moisturiser to set in, then apply your foundation..., then lightly dust on loose powder to help set the foundation and stop your skin from going shiny.

Try Flawless Skin Foundation by Prescriptives. I love it! It covers my skin beautifully, never looks caked, and makes my skin really soft and smooth like a baby's. It's a bit pricey, £27, but definately worth it!

Good luck :)

I have become a true beleiver in Maybelline Dream Matte Mouse Foundation....It gives that flawless look...I have noticed though when my foundation starts "laying" funny on my face...grodgy and greasy as you say..which i totally understand what you mean...I know its time to either use a good clay mask or use my Microdermabrasion kit...I also use baking soda sometimes as a gentle exfoliater...Other than that ...an alcohal free toner to take off any cleanser residue and residual oil helps followed by a light moisturizer...Also the Olay regenerist serum works well as a sort of primer under my foundation.

Facial scrub!! Moisturiser!! (also masage the cream into your face well so there's no dry spots)

I recommend Oil Of Olay moisturiser. It hydrates the skin and doesn't leave your face oily.

Here's a makeup artist tip:

Only use foundation where you need it!!
NOT all over. Then blend well and dust translucent powder all over your face. My secret to getting glowing skin that looks flawless is to dust a powder with light reflecting pigments. A.K.A. shimmery powder. Or even a light bronze powder. Then with an eye shadow brush blend on your brow bone (right below your eyebrow) and the center of your nose. Also, smile to find the apples of your cheeks and right above your cheek bone blend lightly in an upward motion towards your temples. (Careful not to put too much your face can appear too shiny)
The shimmer will reflect the light and give you a glow that leaves your skin radiant!
This is my daily ritual and I use it on all of my clients!!

First of all find out your skin type: dry, oily, or some parts dry but other areas oily. Only use foundation formulated specially for your skin type. If you are not sure ask at the cosmetic counter. From what you said, you might have oily skin. After cleansing face thoroughly, dab the face with cotton pads soaked with astringent, especially the forehead, nose & chin area before applying foundation, then puff on very lightly a bit of loose powder if you wish.

the best thing is to spend a day going round the makeup counters in a department store. Get them to do your foundation for you and see how that looks an feels. You are probably using one that is oil based and sounds like you have an oily skin. Also ask the counters for samples so you are not splashing our loads of money on the real thing until you are really sure

Don't use liquid foundation this stuff makes you break out and dries clumpy. Use mabelline Dream matte mouse on your face. Soft & Smooth. then, lightly brush Bare Minerals. This combination makes your face look like you're aren't wearing makeup, looks like flawless skin.

The best foundation I have EVER used is by No7 at Boots. It is called 'Intelligent Colour' and it apparently adapts itself to the colour of your face meaning no need to worry about hundreds of different shades. It's almost a mousse in a tube and you wont know you're wearing anything.
Also, I have an average skin tone and I use MEDIUM. Don't be fooled by how dark it looks as you squeeze it out of the tube, it will look fine on your face.Promise.
