Astronomers have concluded so many shapes & models of the universe. Unfortunately, none among them has proven. It limits the imagination same way we have predicted several shapes of Milky Way galaxy (finally considered "sipral"), but the issue on it's arms are still going on. No living thing and no spacecraft has gone outside the Milky Way over considerable distance from where it can click the photograph of the entire galaxy. Same thing is going on with the universe.

The current best fit model is a flat ÎCDM (Lambda-Cold Dark Matter) Big Bang model where the expansion of the Universe is accelerating, and the age of the Universe is 13.7 billion years.
The "Î-CDM" Big Bang model: 4% normal matter, 23% "Cold" Dark Matter", 73% Î dark energy
the term "dark" means that something is undetectable because it doesn't give off electromagnetic radiation. The only hope to detect anything that is dark is to observe its gravitational effect on things around it.
The contruction of new devices such as ALMA — The Atacamer Large Millimeter Array (finish contruction in 2012) will explore dark energy and dark matter along with numerous other things will help us to get a better understanding of the universe and maybe the shape aswell.

I am therefore taking the liberty of asking you to read a few pages from John Gribbin's latest book where has dealt with topic quite well indeed. The book is called "The Universe-A Biography", and the pages concerned are 56,57 and 58. Please also look in the index and locate universe.

The Big Bang Theory. This theory most closely matches observations of the universe more than any other theory. The two most compelling observations are --
1) cosmic microwave background radiation that fills today's universe
