Crosby. Not that close right now. Ovechkin, primarily a goal scorer, doesn't even have the most impressive goal of the two anymore. That goes to last night's Crosby 1 on 4 jaw dropper. Crosby could score as many goals as Ovechkin if he wanted to, but he's so good at everything else that he ends up scoring fewer goals. Crosby thinks pass a lot more than Alexander.
I feel bad for Ovechkin. He's a tremendous player and he's playing in Crosby inescapable shadow. And he's not playing with Recchi, Whitney, Malkin, etc. But he's a tremendous player.
How insane would Crosby and Ovechkin were on the same team?

Ovechkin is the more individually talented player. Crosby is the better player. I'm not the first to say this. It's the same as Gretzky and Lemieux... Gretzky was a better player (check the stats) with his ability to make everyone around him better, but for pure talent, Lemieux was more naturally gifted. Crosby and Ovechkin are the same thing. Crosby will be a better player, but I'd probably rather watch Ovechkin because the guy has never scored a non-highlight reel goal, and he hits like freight train.

Gawd! I hate it when people compare the two of them. They are both awesome hockey players! They both have a different style of play.
Personaly I like Ovechkin better cuz he isn't as "advertised" as Crosby. He is more of a "team player" and that is good for the whole team. It gets annoying when one person scores all the goals. Not that Crosby does score all the goals. I think Crosby is a more offensive player. He has better stats than Alex but that isn't all that matters.
So my final answer is, Crosby's more talented but Ovechkin's a better "team player".
Please stop comparing them cuz they aren't that much alike and they are both very young. They're just starting their careers in the NHL and we haven't seen everything that they can do. They couldn't get better or they could get worse. It's too early to tell who is the better player.

The question is about talent - not who is the better all-round hockey player.
Crosby is a hard-working, tough, solid, fast, scoring forward with great vision of the ice. His attitude is great and he works hard all the time which makes him a formidable player.
Ovechkin comes by his abilities naturally with parents that were Olympic athletes for Russia. He is big and has natural talent. He can perform magic as evidenced by some of his hi-lite reel goals. However, I am not sure his work ethic is as consistent and as good as Crosby's.
So, my answer is Ovechkin is probably more talented but I'd pick Crosby as the better hockey player.

Crosby.....
Crosby 106 points in 68 Games
Ovechkin 84 points in 72 Games
This years its Crosby by a landslide
alex is more of a pure goal scorer with some playmaking ability
Sid has it all.
in the end Sid will blow Ovechkin away.

finally someone asked this question kudos..
the most complete hockey player for sure goes to crosby, he has vision and great vision on the ice.
ovechkin who for some reason imo is underrated to some extnt because of crosby and all that crap, but if your asking who has the most talent skill wise, one on one etc. hands down ovechkin. he will produce points, he is quick, always a highlight reel wating to happen with this guy, i mean that dude scored a goal on his back w/o looking as he was sliding on the ice guys, and he can dish out massive hits
