Converting xvid dvdrips to be played on my PSP?

Question

I'm using PSP Video 9 at the mo but don't understand how it has can converted a 800mb file that plays on my PC to a 1.4gb for my PSP? Shouldn't it lose file size as the resolution doesn't need to be as good? I only have a 1gb card anyway.

Is there a better way of converting this kind of thing, or better still is there a kind of xvid player for the PSP?

I use xilisoft, Dvd to Psp converter. Simple and easy to use.
With regards to a player for the Psp, not sure but have a look at psphacker101.com you'll be amazed at what you can do with your psp.
