My great-grandfather ( I forget how many generations ago) came to the US from County Antrim Ireland in 1774. He then fought in the Continental Army, was wounded twice and captured once...but escaped the same night.
His widow received a pension after the war, and the War Department kept excellent records, allowing me to know all this today.
