My dad wrecked my car a few months ago, it was totaled and I was told it could never be repaired. Would they still allow me to get my things out of it? Cd player, plates, my dad's belongings (he passed away 1 month afterward) etc?

It seems they would, they have "custody" of the car.. not my accessories. Or maybe even cut me a break since my father suffered internal bleeding due to the wreck.

The car is in a tow yard, I don't know any other name for it. My car is still there bc it's in a huge lot on a busy street. A wrecker service I guess?

Towing companies, in most places, are responsible to maintain personal affects for a minimum of 90 days. This also applies to reposessions.
If they are owed money for towing and or storage they might not give it back to you until they are paid. If you don't pay, then after 90 days they can sell that stuff to recoup a portion of the bill.

Word of warning: If your father died because of the accident, ie badly injured in the car, send someone else to get the stuff. And only get what you REALLY want.
Cars where people were badly injured in or died in, stink horribly afterwards and that includes all the stuff in the passenger compartment.

Ordinarily, they would.

However, this happened a few months ago so I am not too sure if they'd even keep a "totaled" car that long.

They may have removed your stuff and put it in a box, so it's totally worth calling the wrecker to see if that is the case. Given the amount of time that has passed, though, it seems unlikely.

Good luck!

*edit*

If your car is still there, then there shouldn't be any reason to keep you from getting your stuff.

Yes, they should. First, sorry for your loss. It is possible that the car is not there, depending upon if insurance company took posession. If it is still there they may want a storage fee. They should let you get your stuff, two months is a long time in a tow yard. lastly, let me get to a hard fact of life. Things disappear in a tow yard. Sad, but true. Good luck.

No. They are holding the car and everything that was in it as collateral against the towing and storage bill. At some point they will auction it off - you may be able to purchase your stuff from whoever buys it, but these folks are not known for their sensitivity.

It never hurts to try... Bring cash.

Well if the insurance company paid you off for the car then yes you get to retrive your personal contents on the car.. but if it was his fault and it is impounded then you must pay what ever fees first before you can get to the car.

i could checklist it stolen! I recommend this is somewhat embarrassing yet thats your vehicle and who is familiar with how many people they have performed this to already and could keep persevering with to do it if no one feels the would desire to checklist it. vehicles are not low-priced, i wouldnt be letting some ghetto guy or woman basically take it from me and don't something approximately it. i'm hoping to procure a lisence plate off that Benz!
