On line there are great pictures if the 63 Impala with the little known 427 drag race car that in very limited numbers. It had aluminum fenders and hood with minimal bracket holding the bumper and fenders in place. Guys such as "Dyno" Don Nicholson, Dave Strickler, Wally Bell and Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins dragged these cars in 1963 - 64.

The 63 had a continuous aluminum colored rear piece that contained three tail lights per side and covered the trunk opening. The grille was made of aluminum with rectangular slots curve on the center with two headlights per side.

I thought the 63 was cleaner on the front and rear with a pleasing metal break from the headlights to the center-line of the aluminum colored beak extending to the outer edges of the rear tail lights. The "motor hounds" had many choices. 230 in. 6 cyl., 283, two 327's and two 409's and two versions of the 427'. One looked exactly like the 409 and the other was referred to as "The Mystery Engine." The forerunner of the 396, 402, 427 and the LS6 454 "rat motors".

If you're seriously considering buying a classic car, then you might not want to worry about gas mileage. since the majority of cars made before 1970 averaged less then 10 miles per gallon. Depending on engine size and your driving habits, one could get 15-16 miles per gallon. I seriously considered purchasing a 1964 impala with a 258 that averaged about 15 mpg.

I own a shop, and have owned a couple of these cars in my day. There really aren't much difference in these two models. The cosmetics of the front, and rear were just a little different on them. The same engines, transmissions, and rear-ends were offered in both of them. The dash was almost the same except for some minor changes. Outside of this, these cars were identical. I own one of each of these, and I did like my 64 a little better, but I can still find many reasons to like my 63 better, so your guess is as good as mine on this one.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

Not much except for Front and Rear styling is a little different. Most people think the 63 looks better.
