my child was not allowed to call me when he was sick and when I requested to speak to the teacher along with the principal he told me no and I need ed to calm down. I told him I was pissed and wanted an answer. He said I was being vulgar and profane and for me to leave or he would call the law. I told him to go ahead since he didn't have the balls to deal with the situation. The next day I got a letter from him saying I was not allowed within 300 feet of the school without his permission or I would go to jail. I am a single parent and I feel I should be able to ask questions and although I did use pissed and balls which I shouldn't have, but can they really ban me from the school and access to my child for that?

I live in a small town so going before the local school board most likely wouldn't get me any where.

If your concern is to be allowed back into the school, I would write a letter to the principal apologizing for my behavior (using the words pissed and balls) and explaining why I had been upset. He may invite you back in. A principal's responsibility is to keep his students safe, and if you seemed irate and aggressive when you came in, he might've been afraid what you would do. Showing that you have thought about the situation may soften his decision against you. In response to you not being called when your child was sick, I do want to remind you how many students a teacher has during the day. You may not have been called because to the teacher your son didn't seem that sick. I'm a teacher, and we have so many students who pretend to be sick to be able to call home. This may have been the situation with your school. Please remember that teachers have chosen their profession not for the pay but to work with children. Becoming irate because you weren't called when he was sick seems petty. If your reason to go before the school board was to complain about the school not calling, don't do it. Yes, you can be upset and want them to call you if he feels sick, but don't go to the school board over something like that. The school board has too many more important issues to deal with.

1. write a letter. or 2. find out when the next public meeting is. if you go to the meeting, they usually have a "hearing of visitors" or something like that. you will be speaking in front of a bunch of other people so I hope this problem isn't too personal. in my experience they will want to know if you have tried to work things out with the principal before they get involved.
