As a biracial woman with both white and black parents, I would say that I identify more with black. People that are aware of black and white features could easily tell that I am mixed with white. Nonetheless, most people tend to think of me as black. I have still lived much of the black experience when it comes to bigotry. It is very hard for me to think of myself as anything else but black or mixed. When filling out forms I definitely wouldn't check off Caucasian as my race and I hate the idea of being an "other" so I tend to check off that I am African American.

In recent years it has become important to try to be "politically correct" so we have eliminated other descriptives. Many years ago, it was considered common to call someone of mixed Afro-white blood "colored" or "mulatto". It was not considered derogatory at all.. and in some Latin countries today they hold a special place in the social strata. In America, the Black civil rights movement together with Malcolm X strived to use the term "Black" and from then on we do so. Personally, I do not think all "racism" has to be bad, only derogatory racism. I think Racial Pride is great! In most races there are those who believe in "racial purity" and who frown on marriage outside their race. In WW II, Japanese parents hated their daughters to marry Americans, because the children would only be half Japanese. During the Vietnamese era, mixed children of Vietnamese and American parents, were shunned and even treated cruelly. When racism is used to hurt others it becomes a bad thing, but when it can be used to inspire greatness, like the movie and book "Roots", it becomes something fine! Find pride in your race, but don't use it as a weapon to hurt others.

Not really. But thas a good question. Quincy Jone's daughter, shes bi racial and mistaken as 'white'. Then there are those in the middle like, Mariah Carey obviously is biracial. John Ameichi...the list goes on. So I think bigots need to recheck their hate list and cross out that generalization. Bigots hate anything thats different. Im surprised they dont get bored...

No I don' think that's why they hate their races being compromised. They're just shallow and need lots of help and God.
