Note that there are noble titles from Englan, from Scotland, from Great Britain and from the Kingdom of Britain and Ireland in addition to titles from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in existance. Recent legislative changes mean they can't automatically sit in parliament but they retained their titles.

titles can awarded by the Queen, such as by knighting someone...some are inherited or you can marry into nobility or royalty
i.e. Prince Charles' new wife, the former Camilla Parker Bowles is now the Duchess of Cornwall.
