All my life living in the philippines, I believed I was ASIAN. Geographically, the phils is a part of ASIA but culturally and socially? The philippines is very distinctive. Just being the only christian nation in ASIA already make filipinos not ASIAN.

Pacific Islanders? hmmm well Hawaiians and Samoans, Guamanians are and why would Filipinos be? What would be some major things in common?

Filipinos. Now. There's an Identity. Not to mention the fact that when you check the statistics of the population of foreigners in some countries, like the US, they categorize a ASIANS as ASIANS (chinese, japs, koreans...etc), Pacific Islanders (hawaiians, samoans...etc) and Filipinos have an independent report **not belonging to any other race.

I'm FILIPINO, and I INTEND TO KEEP IT THAT WAY. Not asian, not pacific Islander but filipino.

But Phlegm, no one is saying that we're not Filipinos. Kanino mo narinig iyang salita na hindi tayo Pinoy? The word Asian is used for people who comes from Asia. This word is used because oftentimes, people from other continents just can't tell the difference between Thais, Indonesians, Malaysians, Vietnamese and us Flips. Pag nakakita ka ng puting tao sa bayan natin, would you call him British, or American without even knowing where he comes from? Of course not, but it would be safe to say that he's probably North American or European, right?

I understand your point. But here in the U.S. some people cannot tell that you are filipino so they sit there and start guessing your race which can be annoying at times.Once you tell them your race the intelligent people respect the fact that you are filipino and offer a great conversation on the other hand the ignorant people will start asking stupid questions like Do filipinos eat dogs or do you cook lumpia and pansit at your house.Wouldn't you rather be called an Asian so you don't have to hear ignorant questions like that...? I have often been mistaken for being a mexican because my eyes aren't slanted...to be honest with you I would rather be hated for being an asian than being accused for an illegal alien.no offense to anyone.. Pinoy Pride!

Well I have news flash for ya, Asia is a continent every country within that said continent is considered asian, that includes the India, and the Middle East. As for the Asian culture I dont think any country in Asia considers themselves to be Asian, they are all greatly different. The Japanese consider themselves to be better than Asian they just consider themselves Japanese. If you change your perspective you may see things very different to what you are now.

We are a mixture of races - Indonesian, Chinese, Malaysian, Thai, Japanese, Spanish, American, and now European, Arab, African, etc. We are a mongrel race and we should not be ashamed of it.
So you are right we belong to a distinct race - Filipino.

WELL I THINK IF YOU HALF TO CLASSIFY YOURSELF AS ASIAN OR PACIFIC ISLANDER ... I THINK YOU ARE A PACIFIC ISLANDER BECAUSE THE PHILIPPINES IS AN ISLAND AND ASIANS ARE FROM COUNTRIES IN ASIA ..AND NONE OF THERE DIALECTS SOUND CLOSE TO FILIPINO LANGUAGES BUT LANGUAGES SUCH AS CAMBODIAN ...CHINESE AND THAI KIND OF SOUND SIMILAR...
