I have never left.. but one year I went to the grocery store because I forgot some really important ingredients for our Thanksgiving dinner. They had every register open and I kid you no...t my line ended at the very back of the store and wrapped around another 20 feet!!!!! I wanted to cry! But I knew that I wasn't the only one. The grocery store was doing all they could. They were even nice enough to pass our juice and cookies and gave everyone 10% off at the register. One employee was even nice enough to stand in my place so I could take my son to the bathroom. The 40 min wait sucked but the store was really awesome about it. I had so much time to think that I blame the goverment really. I mean it was like everyone was there because it was the last paycheck on a Friday and many said that the reason they waited so long to shop is because it's too hard to come up with the money for holiday dinner. How sad it is to live in the greatest Country in the world and so many of us still scrape by and live paycheck to paycheck. There is something wrong in Washington.

I'm not much too "keen" on waiting in lines, so, more often than not, I'll end up doing the "shortest aisle" search (which actually takes longer than just standing in the damn line).
I've never left all my items behind, on purpose. I have, however, forgotten to make sure that I had all my stuff. ...and I'm also pretty good about making a special trip to the store for "ONE" particular thing, buying a whole bunch of other stuff, and then, walking out of the store without (because I forgot to buy) whatever it was that I went there for in the first place.
If lines piss you off as bad as they do me, here's a couple of suggestions: Don't go to the store between 11:15 a.m and 1:00 p.m or 4:45 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. If there's a 24 hour store, shop late. Or, very early. If you're there for just a couple things and there's someone in front of you with a "cart full of stuff", don't be shy, (or stand there in a snit) ask "Would you mind terribly if I went ahead of you? My kid (use the word "daughter" if it's a woman ahead of you, alternate "son" if it's a man)... Anyway, say (and don't forget to look at your watch, anxiously) "My daughter/son is waiting for me to pick them up from "whatever" practice, I'm in such a hurry and my wife will kill me if I'm late" (you get where I'm going with this, right) There's no way (99.9% of the time) that the person will "not" let you cut in front of them. They are usually more than happy to comply. If they say no, start looking (but don't change lines) around for a shorter one and keep looking at your watch. The guilt will kick in and they'll let you go on ahead of them.
And, that's about all I have to say about that....

Oh heck ya- unless it will inconvenience me in some way, I'll totally reconsider my purchase and leave if the cashier is taking too long. Only if they're obviously being slow because of inattention, or because they're on the phone with a friend or something. If it's because they're new or the lineup is just really long, I'll try my best tp be patient.

Darn right, when the line is too long and the store is too cheap to have enough cashiers bye bye.
Though if it is the supermarket I will get one of them Archie Comics digest and read it while waiting. Why do you think they have so many pages and are on the register line?

I did that a few times, depending on if I have something important to do next, but most times I just tough it out.

I usually tough it out if I see that the cashier is doing their best to help the customers. I will leave if they are messing around and not paying attention to their job.

i've done that a couple times when i'm really in a hurry, otherwise i keep staring at one of the clerks just standing around and they get uncomfortable and then start to help... or i just wait it out. i've also just left my items there with the clerk when i forgot my card. lol ♥

Yeah, in some of the BIG Department stores. They have no help, one register covering multiple departments. Yep, I just came to my senses...I was willing to buy until I encountered the big wait....
