No. They have the right to do this, just like every other citizen. Being taken seriously for it is another matter.

Why should they be? If they are American, were born here and are 35 years or older they can run for any office they wish to. Do the names Ronald Reagan, Sonny Bono, Shirley Temple Black, Clint Eastwood, or Ahhnold ring any bells? Those names remind me of the days when Republicans were sane enough to get my vote. Ahhnold is a RINO. Any way you look at it they were all pretty well respected as politicians go. You might have a point though now that I think about it. I heard Jerry Springer is thinking about getting back into politics.

Politics in us of a is almost a sideline of Showbiz. the two "professions" make investments inordinate volume of capability into their "media profiles", the two are overly in contact of their acceptance and historic legacy.
