Everthing comes with a sin.
The pace was slower. People could eat lunch in a cafe to get away from work and mentally recharge.
Cell phones have made employees almost on the clock all the time, and executives on the clock always.
Tomorrow, everyone will always be on the clock.

i lived most of my life without cell/mobile phones and i don't see any real advantage in having one other than emergencies. they are just another gimmicky gadget for someone to make money off of and to make people think that they are important enough to have people calling them all the time

You can't really say it has or hasn't because they have caused many accidents but they are in good use for emergencies, so the conclusion is that there isn't an answer.
