It depends on the diability of your child in terms of what it is you are needing or looking for or their needs. A very good start is picture flashcards with the words underneath. For example, things your child enjoys. You can take family photos or magazine pictures and on one side you out the picture and the letter it starts with and on the back the name in black ink. Once your child progresses you can use just the back and mix it up where you place 3 down and ask them for your help in finding the right object. What is really important for children of all ages is a schedule. The important thing is depending on the age to break up the study time with playtime and use small rewards. Stickers on a poster or small dollar store toys also help. I hope this helps and I really wish you well and your family!

It all depends what learning style he has.

A puppy can be good to teach child with intellectual disability.
for some high needs intellectual disabled children they wash a dog as part of their learning program.
You might be able to write a dairy, as a story book for him.
Let him learn through play and his interests.
Play memory, chess and other thinking games with him.

music is also good to. For social interaction scouts ect with children his age with or without disabilities
