I don't know what country you're describing! "Full" of murderers, thieves, drug addicts and con merchants?
Yet my family seem more prosperous than ever. My children are being well educated and university participation is widening to give them the chance that many in my generation never had.
When I needed a minor operation last year, it was done quickly and efficiently on the NHS. People I meet are mostly courteous and reasonable people.
Sure, there are scumbags and arseholes about, but Blair didn't invent them. I don't like the fact that my country is fighting a war in Iraq, but if I'm honest, it doesn't actually impinge on my life at all.
I think Blair's legacy will be a mixed one. Stable economy, improvements in services, increased prosperity for the hard-working. On the other hand, a needless war in Iraq, social problems due to an underclass being unwilling to participate in self improvement and prosperity. Sleaze and corruption? No more than any other administration - it's just that in those exciting days of 1997, we expected so much better.
Rock bottom? If you're writing from Baghdad, probably, yes.
In the UK? Get real!

Although I am entirely unhappy with Mr Blair myself I cannot see how you can claim the country is full of "murderers thieves and drug addicts". I think people in general are full of "common decency". Truth is, you will find what you are looking for!

Historically, Britain has always been full of murderers, thieves etc.
Here are some murderers to be going on with. Sir Francis Drake - slaver, Sir Walter Raleigh - pirate and slaver. Oliver Cromwell, slave ship owner.
The British sold the 'drug' opium to the Chinese workers to keep them under control in the 19th century. The British drug barons.
We British are a nation of thieves, murderers, pirates and cut-throats. That's how we got to to top dog by the end of the 19th century. We showed kindness and consideration to no body and certainly not to ourselves.
Nothing changes except the date.

I knew this would happen when the country turned against Major and voted him in. People voted for him because he promised more than Major. They believed him. I was amazed at their gullibility voting him in. Major was a reliable man who for example set up the N. Ireland peace settlement never achieved before by any Prime Minister.,( stopping all the murders daily by the IRA) Yet the country voted against him.
People are angry at themselves. Of course since Major every conservative leader has not been worth voting in. Hence Blair was merely the least worse alternative.

why is it Mr Blairs fault?
Whoever is in power would get the blame for the state of our nation.
Murderers, thieves and drug addicts have unfortunately always been present in this and most other countries!.
What next is he to get the blame for, climate change, not snowing at Christmas, come on get real!. Just look at the mess he has been left by the conservatives!!!!!
Just a thought, if other parties had not privatised everything or started buying cheaper abroad, we would probably have some industries left, i.e the coal mines and therefore less unemployment, thanks Thatcher!!!

you are so right, but have you ever wandered why those like yourself have no power to change things, i will tel you, those who stick their necks out for change are considered subversive and are harrased by those who want to keep things as they are. there is a lot of money in evil, and people are making it hand over fist. for every disastrouse thing some body gets a careeer out of it, to keep the career they have to keep the bad thing going, if it turns good they loose their career.

All the things you mentioned above existed anyway. Blair and his scummy cabinet have just allowed them to proliferate.

That man is lower than a snakes belly, that goes for all the New Labour scum who 'run' this country as well. If you are honest and law-abiding then the law, taxation and the government are all against you.

What do you expect when the government doesn't listen to the people who elected them. Persistent tax increases and blatant disregard for what the people want has developed this state we live in.
Now, regretfully it's each man for himself.
