Banks have thousands of cheques presented for payment every day. Depending on their behaviour, they only have to act reasonably. This is especially so with regard to forgeries, which sometimes cannot easily be detected..

Get out a few documents that you have signed over a period of time (checks, contracts, credit card bills, etc.) Can you see any significant differences between them?

Say you injured your writing hand and had difficulty writing. WOuld you want your bank to reject the check you wrote to pay your rent/mortgage payment. Would you want to deal with all of the returned check fees from the people and business that you passed the checks to?

Would you be willing to pay higher fees to the bank in order for them to carry your account for you? They would need that to pay for all the forensic experts necessary to determine the validity of the signatures on all checks.

The bank requires you to safeguard the checks to ensure that you are the only person passing them. They provide remedies to you to challenge the validity of a check should they be altered or forged or misprinted. If an invalid check was accepted and resulted in an overdraft of your account, they would normally reverse any overdraft charges and provide a letter of explanation you could show to anyone that had one of your valid checks returned for nonsufficient funds.

Maybe you should try working at a bank. Or any place that accepts checks. Glad I don't. But if you hate standing in line you would blow a gasket because you'd be waiting forever. And what are they going to compare this signiture to anyway. This isn't T.V. where there's all this high tech equip on hand.

Normally signature of drawers of all the cheques are verified at the branch in which the drawer is holding his/her account. The MICR verification of the cheques are also done there..
